New Year’s Resolution #2: Lose weight.

Well, the golden barrel cactus, Echinocactus grusonii, is rather plump. Of course, it is meant to be rotund in order to store lots of water until the next rainy day. The golden barrel and other desert cacti can live up to two years without water!

We were not designed to store water like this, nor to store too much fat, although it could be useful if a famine was coming. But assuming this is not the case, start counting those calories!

How did you score on this resolution in the past year?

1 point – I need to lose more than 20 pounds to be at my healthy weight
2 points – I need to lose more than 10 pounds to be at my healthy weight
3 points – I am within 5 pounds of my healthy weight
