Position summary

The Department of Visual Art, Communication, and Design is hiring a professor to teach Public Relations and general Communication classes at Andrews University. The ideal individual will be qualified to teach graduate and undergraduate level courses and mentor students in the area of Public Relations.

Qualifications summary

PhD/doctorate in Communication related fields preferred; preference is given to those with terminal degrees and emphasis/experience in Public Relations.

Significant teaching experience 

Practical experience in public relations and related media strongly desired 

Ability to teach in the area of public relations, and general communication required

Ability to teach in one of these additional areas preferred: advertising, new media, journalism.

Commitment to team work and collegiality 

Excellent interpersonal skills 

Ability to work with students and colleagues with a wide range of national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Engage in full-time teaching--undergraduate and graduate courses

Advise undergraduate and graduate students

Assist in growing and strengthening the department, in particular in relationship its public relations and media emphases.

Guide graduate research, theses, and production projects

Promote effective communication across many contexts and through multiple media methods

Assist with creating, capturing, and communicating "the Andrews story"

Serve on departmental and university committees

Supervisory responsibilities

May supervise a reader or other students workers; may supervise or assist media lab coordinator and/or students working in media lab.

 

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will be a multi-talented individual who is able to teach varied courses. Evidence of excellence in teaching and potential for scholarly activity is essential. Special consideration will be given to applicants who display expertise in media production, public relations, advertising, new media, and/or other cutting edge pursuits in the field. The desired candidate will have a Christ-like spirit and an attitudes that reflects love, kindness, positivity, and a genuine interest in others.

Physical demands

Private office and classroom work space is well-lit, but computer work may cause eye or wrist strain with prolonged activity. Working in lab space may require lifting equipment that weights as much as 75 pounds, pulling cables, moving teleprompters (on rolling tripods), kneeling, and standing for one or more hours at a time.

Work environment

The work environment conditions (exposure and noise level) for this job are similar to those found in any regular office and classroom environment.
