COUNSELING AND TESTING - Asst Dir Counseling & Testing

Position summary

In collaboration with the Director, provides leadership in the clinical services of the Counseling & Testing Center, including clinical supervision and the coordintion of the clinical internship program.

Available for after office hours clinical consultations, and student crisis interventions.

Provides individual, couple, and group counseling.

Participates in outreach presentations to assist students in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.

Maintains an assigned case load, and provides consultations on issues related to mental health.

Reports to the Counseling & Testing Center Director.

Qualifications summary

Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited program

Fully Licensed psychologist or license elligibe in the state of Michigan within no more than 1 yr. of employment

MInimum 3 years experience in higher education

PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology

Fully licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan



Technical competencies

Able to work with computer programs and other softwares related to the delivery of services within a counseling and testing center

Interpersonal interactions

Must be team oriented - comfortable in a university setting, interacting with students, faculty, staff including residence life, parents, community providers, and colleagues.

Physical demands

Counseling is a sedentary occupation because a great proportion of the time is spent listening, observing, and interacting with clients in an office. The Counseling & Testing Center is a moderately quiet environment, and the noise level is usually moderate. It is a fairly busy office with students and other members of the university community making frequent connections with Counseling Center staff either physically or electronically.
