Position summary
The hired graduate student will assist the School of Distance Education and International Partnerships Director of Student Services in building student services for graduate students studying at a distance.

- Expert user of MS Word Excel; Adobe skills preferable

Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data to assess graduate student service needs and propose actions to improve
- Assist in creatively weaving important information into personable and clear messages for multiple media
- Develop comprehensive graduate student service communication plans, ensuring differentiation for each group through best utilization of current technologies
- Strong customer service skills including a friendly, can-do attitude and follow-through in problem solving
- Able to multi-task and work as a reliable team member in order to meet tight deadlines
- Outstanding skills in organizing information, learning new technology quickly, with great attention to every detail
- Committed to arriving on time, and completing tasks on schedule
- Will need to be proficient or willing to rapidly learn advanced word processing, spreadsheets, and online apps for various communication and project management tasks
- Assist with phone calls and emails, in follow up to committee decisions

Technical competencies
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Must possess excellent skills in interpersonal communication, professional oral and written English, planning and organization, Microsoft Office software and internet applications. A strong sense of time management is essential.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to read and interpret documents such as student handbooks, academic bulletins, software help manuals, and a wide range of numeric and alpha data sources. Able to write routine reports as well as craft a variety of communications for various audiences. Articulate and pleasant oral communication in clearly understandable English. Spanish or other additional language proficiency in both oral and written communication is preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Able to read and interpret financial statements, and assist in student service data analysis and reporting.
REASONING SKILLS
Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with students in a mentoring or problem solving role, with faculty and staff in a supporting role, and individually in a focused way to meet task deadlines. Experience living in more than one country and speaking more than one language is preferable to best communication with the divere population of students at a distance.
