Position summary
The Shipping Assistant, under supervision, manages all clerical data entry and physical process and inventory for shipping and receiving the products produced by Andrews University Press. The job requires a very high level of attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, organizational skill and ability to learn and use standard shipping software. Because of the knowledge base that must mastered over time to learn the job, a successful applicant will give indication of being willing to hold the job for two or three years. Preference will be given to applicants who will be able to work during usual academic breaks.

Duties and responsibilities
- Package books and prepare shipments daily
- Finish shipments to meet USPS and UPS schedule daily
- Maintain clean, organized, neat and orderly warehouse
- Move inventory from remote temporary storage units to main warehouse as needed
- Other miscellaneous duties as requested
- Upkeep of golf cart battery, winter covering and bi-annual Transportation dept. maintenance
- Maintain temperature and humidity levels in main warehouse
- Maintain adequate stock of shipping supplies
- Maintain adequate stock of each current book title in main warehouse
- Replenish water and other supplies for coworkers in Southerland House
- Process and restock returns, exchanges, and damaged & defective inventory
- Purchase postage via USPS software
- Deliver on-campus orders as needed/requested
- Perform annual year-end inventory of all current stock
- Assist in preparing/packaging materials for promotional use at conventions and special remote site sales
- Upkeep sidewalk system in winter (shoveling) and spring (edging) as needed
- Mow lawn in the summer

Qualifications
- Reliability and dependability in meeting daily schedule
- Willingness to follow instructions and learn new tasks
- Ability to learn and navigate shipping software
- Numerical skills and attention to detail
- Able to lift and carry boxes of books up to 50 lbs.
- Available 2-3 hours in the morning daily (Monday-Friday)
- Long-term commitment preferred (2-3 years?)
- High level of accuracy is a top priority
- Patience and willingness to double and triple check one’s own work
- Trust in God and a desire to serve in the advancement of His Kingdom
