Position summary
Assistant or Associate Professor of Chaplaincy
. Teaching responsibilities for graduate chaplaincy courses primarily in the following areas: philosophy and ethics, trauma and crisis, death and grief.
Qualifications summary
- An earned doctorate in chaplaincy or closely related discipline.
- Endorsed by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministry.
- Board Certified Chaplain and Certified Family Life Edication certification preferable.
- Minimum two CPE units or a minimum 10 years full-time chaplaincy employment.
- Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting winsomely with student and staff.
- Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on popular and professional levels.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach a full load of courses in chaplaincy and related disciplines.
- Participate and lead out in chaplaincy activities for the Seminary.
- Advise and provide mentorship to masters and doctoral students in chaplaincy.
- Provide advocacy and leadership in area of healthcare chaplaincy and beyond to the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond).
- Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities.
- Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration.
Supervisory responsibilities
Provide guidance to administrative assistant and graduate assistant (as applicable) in the conducting of required functions and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Must be fluent in English. Must possess critical thinking skills.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Must be comfortable interacting in an ongoing basis with students.
Physical demands
Be able to stand and be mobile for up to three hours at a time in a teaching environment.
Be able to carry textbook and laptop computer from office to classroom.
Be able to sit for several hours at a time in office conditions.
Work environment
Work environment should maintain a relatively quiet noise level.
