Position summary
The individual will hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Discipleship & Religious Education and carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration.
Qualifications summary
An earned PhD in religious education, religion, education, or closely related field (emphasis in family life preferred). Persons actively pursuing a PhD and on track to complete within 2 years may be considered. Prepared to mentor students and communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach a standard load of masters and doctoral courses and seminars in religious education, family life, and related disciplines
- Advise masters and doctoral students, and guide doctoral dissertations
- Provide advocacy and leadership in areas of expertise to the Seminary and Seventh-day Adventist church (and beyond)
- Engage in recruitment and marketing for the MA and PhD (Religious Education) programs
- Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities
- Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration.
- Willing to sign the faculty delimitation statement.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Advise masters and doctoral students, and guide academic qualitative & quantitative doctoral dissertations.
- Experience in or potential for academic leadership.
Qualifications
- Commitment to Christ, personal spiritual maturity, and exemplary character
- An earned PhD in religious education, religion, education, or closely related field (emphasis in family life preferred) Persons actively pursuing a PhD and on track to complete within 2 years may be considered.
- Proven competence in teaching at the tertiary level, in leadership, and in significant service to the church preferred; pastoral experience desirable
- Experience in or potential for academic leadership
- A record of academic engagement and publication and an on-going research agenda in social science, (qualitative and quantitative) methodologies preferred
- A commitment to mentor students
- Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level
- Must be a Seventh-day Adventist having a healthy, balanced SDA identity with solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Be familiar with classroom technology, Word, and Outlook.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with students in advisory role and with faculty administration and student population.
