Position summary
Full-time tenure track position. It requires 24 teaching credits per year, and it entails teaching music classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, being responsible for the orchestral studies area, and preparing and conducting the concerts of the AU Symphony Orchestra (AUSO).

Duties and responsibilities
The AUSA conductor duties include:
- Conducting the AUSO concerts
- Running rehearsals with the AUSO
- Coordinating all activities concerning promotion of concerts, programs, and pre-concert talks
- Monitoring and directing all activities concerning music material for rehearsals and concerts such as music rental, hiring extra personnel and stage set-up at the Howard Performing Arts Center
- Collaborating with singers, voice studios, and vocal ensembles
- Teaching classes in the areas of conducting, score study, orchestration, music theory, and individual instrumental classes
- Actively engaging in community outreach
- Planning and coordinating all touring activities
- Supervising the work of student workers and the graduate assistant
Supervisory responsibilities
Directly supervises one student employee as office worker and one graduate assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, assigning, directing work and appraising performance.

The position necessarily includes interaction with many types of people including students, staff, faculty, and guest artists. Strong skills in collegiality, service, and communication are highly desirable in the qualified candidate.
