Position summary
As Director of Physics Enterprises and faculty (non-tenured track) in Physics, the successful applicant will spend half time leading and supervising the development, production, promotion, and sales of educational physics equipment and half time in teaching, research, and service in the Department of Physics. Service will include the duties of Radiation Safety Officer. Physics Enterprises is a non-profit auxiliary of the Department of Physics whose gains provide the means for the University, CAS, and the Department of Physics to achieve new heights of excellence and levels of scientific enterprise beyond its normal budgetary limits.

Duties and responsibilities
- Prepare annual University cost center 0682 budgets in collaboration with the Physics Enterprises Board Chair for presentation to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Consult periodically with the University CFO, Controller, Counsel, Human Resources, and other relevant officers when needed
- Prepare quarterly Physics Enterprises Board reports with the Physics Enterprises Board Chair for annual presentation to the Physics Enterprises Board and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Oversee the 0681/0682 cost center accounts in collaboration with Physics Enterprises and Physics administrative staff and the CAS Assistant to the Dean or equivalent
- Oversee the maintenance and training of a workforce sufficient in size, training, quality, overall output, and efficiency to keep up with market demand for Enterprises products
- Promote and open new markets for existing Physics Enterprises products
- Build strategies to expand Physics Enterprises into new areas of innovative and entrepreneurial products and services that have the potential for significant financial gains
- Develop and sign legal understandings with the University and its various entities, sister institutions, global and local communities, inventors, and entrepreneurs for the purpose of developing and producing new products and services that meet the Mission of Physics Enterprises
- As Radiation Safety Officer, conduct mandatory inspections for the Department of Physics, CAS, and the University.
- Teach a load of approximately 12 contact hours in physics and physics labs, with all the duties that accompany academic rank
- Maintain personal, discretionary research projects of choice sufficient to progress towards tenure on a reasonable schedule
- Personal creative and invention projects to spearhead new production.
- Contribute to physics outreach and recruitment activities for to increase physics enrollment
- Active participation in Physics Faculty meetings, Physics Enterprises Board meetings, and at least one CAS or University level committee meeting.
- Calling and leading staff and student worker meetings of Physics Enterprises
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervising the procurement, training, and management of
- staff consisting but not limited to nor necessarily including an administrative assistant, operations manager, and shop manager
- graduate assistants, engineering and scientific interns as available and needed
- contract developers and engineering as needed
- student assembly workers
Qualifications
- PhD in physics
- Credentials in Radiation Safety sufficient for licensing
- Credentials in Engineering
- 3-D printing
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- Experience in physics teaching at multiple levels, in-person and remote teaching and tutoring.
- Outreach experience and interest
- Computing skills in Learning Hub or equivalent class management systems, inventory and other data bases, and
- Programming CNC or related skills
- Engineering training and experience
- Technical and administrative experience

- Demonstrated ability to connect with students one-to-one, in small groups, and in large groups for teaching, mentoring, supervision, and advising

Physical demands
Must be able to lift up to 85 pounds.
Work environment
Speaking to be heard without amplification in amphitheatres. labs, and classrooms seating 24 to 100.
Working or overseeing work in a shop environment with occasional noise levels beyond the limit of 85dB and thus requiring hearing protection.
