Position summary

Full-time tenure track position: Requires 24 teaching credits per year, including music classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, fulfilling responsibilities of the orchestral studies area, preparing and conducting the concerts of the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra (AUSO).

Qualifications summary

Ability to work with students and colleagues with a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Earned doctoral degree in conducting is preferred. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

The AUSO conductor duties include:



Supervisory responsibilities

Directly supervises student employees including office workers and graduate assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, assigning, directing work, and appraising performance. 

Qualifications




Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

Familiarity with classroom technology, use of Zoom (video conferencing), and the Course Learning Management System (Moodle/LearningHub).



 

Interpersonal interactions

The position necessarily includes interaction with many types of people including students, staff, faculty, and guest artists. Strong skills in collegiality, service, and communication are highly desirable in the qualified candidate.

Work environment

The work environment conditions for this job are similar to those found in any regular office and classroom environment. Occasional outdoor performances may be scheduled. The noise level in the work environment includes music from rehearsal rooms nearby, instruments playing, and vocalization.
