Human Resources Waiving AU Insurance Andrews University has a "Hard Waiver" policy, which means that students will be enrolled in and charged automatically for the university-negotiated insurance plan. However, if a student already has medical insurance, he/she can waive the plan during registration time by entering his or her own insurance information in the waiver form available in Registration Central, under the Student Insurance step. A copy of the private insurance card must be presented to the Student Insurance Office at the Human Resources department or the student will automatically be charged for student insurance. Students who enroll after the registration deadline will have to bring a copy of their insurance card to our office before they can waive AU insurance. When completing the waiver form when you register online, please make sure that you accurately complete all necessary insurance information, based on your current coverage. Please note:
Medicaid Waivers Students who have Medicaid are allowed to waive AU insurance. Medicaid cards from states other than Michigan will not be accepted as proof of insurance. Except for emergencies, Michigan health providers do not accept Medicaid from states other than Michigan. Since Medicaid is granted on a month-by-month basis, you are required to bring your current Medicaid card in to our office at the beginning of each term. Failure to provide this information in any term will result in a charge for insurance from that term through the remainder of the school year and is not refundable! International students with F-1 and J-1 visas are sometimes granted limited Medicaid benefits - for example, for pregnancy or emergency services. Since these types of Medicaid coverage do not meet the minimum requirements set up by the university, they cannot be used to waive the student insurance program. |
