BS: Communication Arts
Skills & Education: The BS in Communication Arts is a five-year degree. It will provide training on how to effectively teach speech, media literacy, listening, writing, graphic design, drama, and photography, all within a communication arts context. This degree, granted by the College of Arts & Sciences in cooperation with the Department of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum, prepares students to teach Communication Arts at the secondary level. Secondary certification is required.
Career Outlook: This program will prepare students to teach communication at the secondary level.
Prospective Courses: The communication arts student takes the communication core, in addition to courses in classroom communication, media literacy, group dynamics and leadership, professional presentations, and media writing. The student should consult the Teaching, Learning & Curriculum section of the School of Education in the AU Academic Bulletin, for General Education requirements and secondary professional education courses, as well as the number of credits required for student teaching.
