Provide outstanding clinical services to the community and university and to prepare students to become selfless missionary minded Christian professionals - In the summer of 2017 the department offered the Language and Literacy Camp to a school in nearby Benton Harbor during their summer school program. The school serves an area of the community where more than 90% of their students receive free or reduced lunch.
Develop research opportunities for students and faculty - 4 students in the current 2018 cohort have chosen to complete the thesis track of the program and conduct research as a part of their program requirements. One faculty member along with 4 undergraduate students presented posters at American Academy of Audiology, another faculty member is presenting a poster the ASHA convention, and two other faculty members have planned student/faculty research projects beginning in the fall 2017.
Hire faculty staff to support both clinical and educational needs – The University approved an additional clinical position beginning January 2018 (On-site Clinical Coordinator) and continues to seek a doctoral level faculty member.
Fulfill the mission statement of the department to prepare students for employment – 100% of the 2016 graduating class are employed in the field of speech-language pathology.
Achieve at least 80% pass for the Praxis II exam in speech-language pathology – 100% of the 2016 cohort have successfully passed the Praxis II exam. Currently 100% of the 2017 cohort who have taken the exam have passed with 100% first time pass rate.
