Course Description:
Motor learning concepts and how they can be applied in pediatrics is essential for therapists who work in this field. When the concepts of motor learning are applied correctly, outcomes are achieved more quickly. The purpose of this course is to provide information about pediatric and childhood developmental sequences, motor development, and the selection and implementation of specific motor skills in order to minimize extraneous or erroneous movements in teaching a child a specific task or functional skill.
Course Objectives:
- Examine the benefits of more learning when introducing a new moteor task to a child
- Develop a framework for applying motor learning
- Select a motor learning technique for applicaiton to specific developmental challenges
- Analyze children's demonstration of head righting, protective reactions and seeking support in relation to learning a new task
- Demonstrate handling skills for basic mobility tasks using motor learning techniques
