The Annual H.M.S. Richards Lectureship on Biblical Preaching is October 28-29, 2012.
Please note that the AU Bulletin lists this Lectureship as required attendance for
all M.Div. students.
The speaker will be Dr. Thomas G. Long, Professor of Preaching at Candler School of
Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Long is a well-known author of a
large number of books on the topic of preaching. His book "The Witness of Preaching"
(1989), now in its second edition, is one of the most widely used texts on
preaching, appearing on class reading lists in seminaries across the country and
around the world.
The theme of the Lectureship is The Listener and the Biblical Text.
The schedule will be as follows:
Sunday, October 28:
Lecture #1, 1-2:30 p.m.
The Acoustical Impact of the Biblical Text
Lecture #2 3:30-5 p.m.
Standing in the Middle Muddle: What Listeners Need from Sermons
Monday, October 29:
Sermon, 10:30-11:20 a.m.
A Great Chasm.
Lunch will be served in the Seminary Commons to all attendees following the sermon.
