Notes:

Even the professional literature has a tradition of suppressing truthful accounts about incest.

Sigmund Freud had several patients give accounts of numerous childhood incestuous encounters by their father other trusted adults.

Freud suppressed and falsified the painful confessions of his patients and eventually concluded that those confessions must be fantasy.

The negative nature of the subject of incest has adversely caused a deleterious influence on identification, diagnosis, and treatment of incest.

It has even affected research in this area.
