Notes:

Only 14 out of the 40 fathers remembered anything being said during the time that the sexual activity occurred. The remaining said silence surrounded the events.

According to the men, the did not attempt to talk their children into participating. Rather, they said that nonverbal means were used to initiate the sexual activity, and for the most part, to maintain it.

They suggest that the incest was embedded in a mileu of nonverbal cues and messages. Even less frequent, they said, was talk about what happened between the sexual episodes.

It is infrequent for the father or daughter to discuss what was happening and whether or not the sexual activity would continue.
