Perceptions of Abuse

• The larger size and cognitive abilities may be seen as justifying a greater use of force and lesser likelihood of injury
• Adolescents may be more likely to respond to parental abuse with mutual assault
  • Parent may then feel that the adolescent is more deserving of physical maltreatment
