The following are some general, major policies here in Housing. Not all our policies are covered
here, however, so please be sure to read and become familiar with the handbook.
Pianos/Organs
Pianos must be moved with great care. Damages to the apartment or building during moving become the tenant's responsibility. To have a piano in any apartment, other than a ground floor apartment, you must hire a professional moving company that carries liability insurance to move the piano into the apartment and out of the apartment. A copy of the receipt from the moving company must be placed on file at the Family & Graduate Housing Office. If you do not present us with a receipt you will be fined $150.00 for moving the piano into the apartment and/or moving it out of the apartment.
Furniture Removal
The Housing Office will remove any beds (which includes both the mattresses and the frame) upon request of the tenant for a one-time fee of $15.00/bed. All other furniture MUST stay in the original apartment. "Absolutely no exchange of furniture or equipment between apartments is permitted." (Handbook, p. 17)
Air Conditioners
Maplewood Buildings C-H have an air-conditioning unit in each apartment. All other apartments do not have an air-conditioner. You are welcome to bring your own air conditioner. You will receive a charge of $20/mo. for the months of June, July and August for extra electricity. This charge will be incurred whether or not the air conditioner is used.
Freezers
Each apartment has a refrigerator/freezer combination. "A freezer or extra refrigerator may be kept in apartments only by prior arrangement and for an additional monthly fee of $10.00." (Handbook, p. 17)
Payments
Rent is dues on the first of every month. However, you have 10 days of grace. On the 11th of the month (unless the 10th falls on the weekend), if the rent has not been paid, a $20.00 late fee will be added to your rent. If you are paying online, please plan ahead. If, for any reason, you are unable to get the payment to go through, you will still be held responsible for the late fee.
