Andrews University maintains a full-time, 24 hours-a-day, 7 days a week Department of Public Safety. All uniformed officers and dispatchers have gone through comprehensive departmental training and provide patrols of all residence halls, academic buildings (on and off campus), and campus parking areas. All officers are trained in emergency response procedures, first aid, CPR, and crisis intervention.
The Department of Public Safety is responsible for the enforcement of the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Codes. The Department has developed community policing, prevention programs and strategies to support a safe and secure academic environment. In doing so, the Department of Public Safety seeks to preserve an environment where diverse social, cultural, and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.
Governed by the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, the Public Safety Officers of Andrews University maintain required, continuous training regimens; consistent with the principles of protection and service on a Christian campus. Security Response and Authority
The Department of Public Safety coordinates all requests for outside law enforcement, fire departments, medical or other emergency responses it receives on campus. The department can be reached via individual room phones, office phones, or strategically placed courtesy phones throughout campus buildings. Callers dial 3321 to reach the Department of Public Safety, and the caller’s location and phone number are displayed to the dispatcher.
