Resources

There are several professional organizations that you can join as a student. Joining as a student means that you pay less for the dues and for the conferences. If you are specialzing in a certain area, you will want to find the professional organizations to fit your niche. Here are some of the education and curriculum organizations that our department recommends:

AAACS ~ American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies ~ http://calvin.ednet.lsu.edu/~aaacs/index.html
Those that are interested in learing more about curriculum studies will benefit from a membership in this assocation. The TLC Department faculty and students usually have at least one presentation at its sessions, which are held concurrently with the AERA session.

AERA ~ American Educational Research Assocation
www.aera.net
The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and, by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. The TLC Department faculty and students present at this conference annually.

ASCD ~ Association for the Supervision and Curriculum Development
www.ascd.org
ASCD offers broad, multiple perspectives—across all education professions—in reporting key policies and practices. Because we represent all educators, we are able to focus solely on professional practice within the context of "Is it good for the children?" rather than what is reflective of a specific educator role.
