Accountability

Students who choose to attend Andrews University not only make a commitment to be part of a gathered community, but agree to be held accountable for honoring that commitment.

Absences due to field trips, medical appointments, illness or emergencies that occur on Tuesdays or Thursdays will not be excused. However, students who present a teacher's or doctor's note documenting the reason for an absence may have the option to view/listen to a missed Thursday Chapel or Forum online (if available) and file a report to the Student Life Office within a week of the absence.

Please contact the Student Life office immediately after an absence such as those listed above to see if you qualify for the online accomodation.

Charges

A $25 charge will be assessed for the first absence resulting in a failure to meet the requirements described here. A $10 charge will be assessed for EACH absence thereafter.

Example: A community student chooses to attend 11 chapels/forums, and 19 choices for a total of 30 programs. A $25 charge will be assessed for not meeting the chapel/forum minimum of 12 programs.

Example:  A residence hall student chooses to attend 17 chapels/forums, 8 residence hall programs and 5 other choices for a total of 30 programs. A $35 charge will be assessed due to not meeting the residence hall minimum of 10 programs.

Citizenship Response

A pattern of failing to meet the co-curricular requirement will result in a series of citizenship responses along with the accrued charges. These are as follows:

Number of PROGRAMS SHORT and/or Charges Citizenship Response
1-7 credits short and/or a fee of $25-$85  Students will receive a letter of warning.
8-14 credits short and/or a fee of $95-$155 Students will be placed on citizenship probation and receive a letter of probation, and may be ineligible to participate in campus activities and organizations. A second semester of probation-level activity will result in a hold being placed on a student's account.
15 or more credits short and/or a fee of $165+

Students will be placed on citizenship probation and receive a letter of probation and have their registration for a futuer semester put on hold. Before being cleared to continue with their studies, students must complete an accountability interview with the appropriate Student Life Representative and re-commit to the Andrews University Community Values Agreement and attendance expectations.

  • PLEASE NOTE:  Students who fail to honor their re-commitment to the Community Values Agreement may face additional citizenship consequences.

Students are encouraged to keep track of their own attendance records by going to their account.  If you experience difficulty, please call 471.6686.
