StepUp
Here's your chance to get rewarded for things you already do!
In past semesters, StepUp has been a chance to monitor the steps you take each day. In the coming semesters we are going to stay true to the idea of the program but make a few changes….
We ask that you still keep track of how much you are walking each day but we would like those numbers to be in miles and not steps. This new format will allow us to continue monitoring walking and also other forms of movement as well. Mileage may be recorded throughout the whole day (there is no time frame this semester) and throughout the workweek (Monday to Friday). We can only record miles for walking and biking (running can provide an unfair disadvantage). Please feel free to wear the pedometer all day and track all the steps that you take in your daily life.
Each new term there is a new theme to this challenge. In the coming 2012-2013 year we are going to include biking, hiking and swimming into the StepUp challenge.
Fall 2012: “Biking Across Europe”
Winter 2012-2013: “Hiking the Andes”
Spring 2013: “Swim to Pacific Islands”
We still ask that you email you weekly results to ahealthyu@andrews.edu on Fridays. We will record your progress for you and you can monitor it online.
Each term will have set of goals that you can reach. When you reach the levels you will receive feedback and information about some of the different locations where you “traveled” as part of your journey. For example, when you register for “Biking Across Europe” you will receive a virtual “postcard” with information and interesting facts about our starting location Italy. Each new level means a new location which means a new postcard.
Winter 2012: "Hiking the Andes"
The team at a healthy u has set up different levels that correspond to the miles from one country to the next. When you reach a new country (and a new level) you will get a postcard of interesting facts from the country. There are also several levels where you will earn prizes.
As a new challenge this term, we ask that you recruit teams to participate with you. You are allowed to register in teams of two or three. Don’t be afraid to compete – in fact, we encourage friendly competition!
For this program, we ask you to keep track of the miles you walk each day (walk, no running please); you can also track any miles that you cross country ski or the amount of time you spend rock climbing*. At the end of each week we ask that you email your mileage (we need separate numbers for walking, cross country skiing and rock climbing) to ahealthyu@andrews.edu. We will then record your miles for you.
