English Department Events

English Joins the School of Creative Arts and Humanities

This summer, the Department of English formally joined the departments of History/Political Science and Visual Arts/Communication/Design (VACD) in the newly established School of Creative Arts and Humanities. We hope that this new endeavor will create opportunities for growth and collaboration across these distinct disciplines, allowing for new and interesting possibilities for storytelling, writing, and humanities research.

The previous Chair of the Department of English, Dr. Kristin Denslow, will step into the role of Chair of the School of Creative Arts and Humanities. She will serve also as the English Program Director.

What does this mean for English Majors?

Your academic home remains with the English program. You will continue to work with your English academic advisor and take courses in the English major or minor. Your professors’ offices will still be in Nethery Hall. When you graduate, you will still be recognized with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or minor in English.

It may mean that you will have more opportunities to take courses from our sister programs or to participate in more co-curricular activities, such as spiritual and social events, academic assemblies, or field trips. We are seeking ways to help connect students across these disciplines in order to enrich the academic experience for all the majors represented.
