Endowed Funds

Endowed funds allow Andrews to offer a better education to more students.  These funds directly relate to the success of the Andrews experience.  There are three types of Endowed funds.

Endowed Scholarship Funds
Endowed Scholarship funds allow countless students to be a part of Andrews University every year.  This program allows Andrews to award scholarships that help needy and worthy students with financial assistance.  These funds provide a valuable asset both for recruiting new students and helping current students along their course towards completing their degree.

Endowed Chairs
Endowed Chairs are funds that allow Andrews to continue to attract, retain, and honor distinguished faculty members.  These funds provide long lasting financial stability as well as a permanent commitment to quality education.  The recipients, who are chair-holders, are recognized for their personal achievements in their fields.  These funds offer assurance that Andrews supports quality teaching.

Endowed Programs
Endowed Programs help to fund a specific program and allow Andrews to offer cutting edge academics.   These funds assure a quality education at Andrews.

How to Establish an Endowed Fund
The more you give, the more students will benefit.  Here are a few steps to help explain the process.  Please feel free to contact Mary Nell Rosenboom at 269.471.3124 for assistance.

  1. You will be given an endowed scholarship agreement to fill in the blanks as you see fit.  The form is returned to the Office of Development upon completion.
  2. After receiving the agreements it is typed and given to our attorney to review.  Then, you are sent the completed document.  Please know you have the option of re-editing it to suit your intentions.  If it is acceptable, you should sign and return it to the Office of Development in a reply envelope provided for your convenience.  The attorney and president will sign it.
  3. After the agreement is fully signed, a copy is sent to you, and a scholarship file is made for our office.  The original document is kept in a fire proof vault in the Financial Records department.  Also, the appropriate department or school administering the award will receive a copy.
  4. Only the endowment income is used for scholarship funds.  The principle always stays intact.  A donor may take up to five years to reach the minimum activation level of $15,000.  Once activated, the principal is invested for a year to accrue interest and the awards are made to student recipients.  Monies will not be distributed until after the first year the fund is fully endowed.  Donors may add to the endowment anytime and anyone is welcome to donate.

You and your family will know the great satisfaction that comes from fostering the education and development of generations of Andrews’s men and women.  Your gift will make a world of difference for our church and society.

Gift In Kind

(Gift In Kind Form)

A gift in kind is typically an item that you donate to Andrews.   The value of this donation is then tax deductable.  Personal service can not be donated as a gift in kind, however out of pocket expenses that may incur during this personal service may be regarded as a gift in kind as long as there is no significant level of personal benefit in these expenses.  Please contact the Office of Development before donating any gift in kind.  Relevant information needed would be your name and contact information, a brief physical description of the gift, a method of acquisition, and an estimate of the current market value.  If any gift in kind is valued at $2,500 or more please include a written estimate or appraisal.  Once the Office of Development receives this information a decision can then be made as far as the marketability or use of the donation.  A copy of a gift in kind form would then need to be submitted to Andrews.

In Memory/In Honor

Memorial Gifts
Memorial gifts provide a lasting memory of a person’s life and their accomplishments on a spiritual, personal, and professional level.  It also helps to continue the memory of a loved one here at Andrews University and serves as a constant reminder of a future reunion.  It is a privilege for Andrews to offer families an opportunity to honor their loved ones.  Frequently, this person’s family or friends decide to establish a memorial scholarship or an endowed chair following the death of their loved one, at which point all who have been directly or indirectly touched by this individual’s life are offered a chance to remember.  Andrews will be happy to provide the family with a list of contributors and also a list of benefactors, if applicable.

Honorary Gifts
Honorary gifts commemorate an individual’s impact on Andrews University.  Alumni often decide to honor a respected professor or advisor who made a difference in their Andrews experience.  This is commonly in the form of a scholarship fund or endowed chair and frequently coincides with that individual’s retirement.  Friends and family can choose to establish such a gift in honor of someone’s success.  Any individual who has a gift named for them will receive a list of contributors and also a list of benefactors.

New Donor Guide

If you are interested in donating but not entirely sure how the process works, this guide can be very useful.  For any donor, knowing exactly what happens when they give is very important.  Following is a guide to the path of your giving.  Please feel free to contact us with any specific questions.

You Decide to Support Andrews

You make a decision that you want to support the faith-based education and academic excellence at Andrews.  You then determine the amount that you want to give and where you want your gift to impact.

Andrews Receives Your Contribution

Your contribution is recorded in our system and deposited into the proper account based on your specifications.  A letter of thanks and a tax receipt is then mailed to you.

Your Support Makes an Impact

Funds become available for use toward the areas that you specify.  An opportunity is then given for the benefactors of your support to show appreciation.  There are various clubs and societies that can be entered in at certain giving levels that also display Andrews’ appreciation and recognition, both privately and publically.

Whatever the amount of your gift, its impact is felt on Andrews campus.  Endowed scholarships allow students to attend that may not be able to otherwise.  Endowed chairs allow Andrews to continue to recruit top-notch professors.  The annual fund goes directly toward the immediate needs of Andrews.  Support for the various departments allows them to purchase supplies and provide learning activities that enhance the student’s experience.

Your contribution’s effect goes well past the present.  Long after graduation, when alumni think back at their college experience, they will see how you impacted their lives and in return be inspired to support Andrews themselves.
