Biography:
Dominique Wakefield is Assistant Professor and Director of Fitness & Exercise Studies as well as Assistant Department Chair for Nutrition & Wellness at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI. She has taught fitness, wellness and health courses at Andrews University since 2008. Dominique Wakefield received her BA (Physical Education & Health Theme) and MA (Teaching/Curriculum) degrees from California State University, Chico and is currently working on a Professional Doctorate in Health from the University of Bath, UK. She is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and holds membership in ACE, IDEA Fitness & Wellness Organization, and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Prior to coming to Andrews University, Dominique taught part-time at California State University, Southern Adventist University and the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Furthermore, she has over ten years of experience as a Wellness Coordinator, Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor in a variety of settings, such as school, universities and corporations. She has presented internationally and contributed written work to Vibrant Life Magazine and PositiveChoices.com.
In addition to many committees at Andrews University, she is on the committee for physical activity through the health department in the North American Division for Seventh-day Adventists and the Wellness Advisory Council at Andrews University. She also serves as one of the Pioneer Memorial Church Health Consultants.
Her research interests include wellness promotion through physical fitness and developing methods and applications of exercise adherence, particularly for young adults. She is very passionate about fighting the ‘inactivity’ epidemic in the Western World. Her hobbies include tennis, soccer, cardio kickboxing and travel.
