As many students begin anticipating the daunting season of finals and long for the relief awaiting them at the end of the semester, it can be quite difficult to remember the importance of embracing each day and taking time to be thankful. While this is undeniably true, there are a countless number of blessings surrounding each individual and it only takes a second of realization to see how much there is to be thankful for. This year, in celebration of Thanksgiving and all that there is to be grateful for, Andrews University scholars were invited to take a second and share what they recognize as blessings in their lives.

“I guess some things that I'm thankful for are my new car because now I can go wherever I want and I'm thankful for this great weather because I love being outside.”

Danny Frederick (junior, computer science)

“This year I’m thankful for the constants in my life. Truthfully I’ve had some recent changes and I’ve been unsure of how my future will turn out. So I’m very thankful for the friends and family that have remained steady through some of this doubt and uncertainty.”

Kenzie Fossmeyer (sophomore, dietetics and nutrition)

“I'm thankful for my friends, family, health and God.”

Bianca Loss (junior, elementary education)

“I am thankful for experienced, knowledgeable, and attentive professors this semester.”

Johann Cheng (sophomore, communications)

“I’m thankful for the semester being almost over.”

Jordan Sarkodie (junior, computer science)

“I’m thankful for the new opportunities that have been presented to me this year. I’ve had the chance to meet new people and come closer to others. I’ve let go of circumstances that were hurting me and managed to learn what self-care means to me. Also, I am very thankful for physical activities such as sports! It’s a wonderful and healthy way of releasing stress and clearing one’s mind.” Sophia Ileana Martinez (junior, health science)

“I am thankful for the opportunity to make friends and connections that open up my mind and allow me to broaden my field of view of my life. I am also thankful for the way my teachers have been patient with me and always offered time to talk and help as much as possible. School is hard but being kind to one another and helping each other out will be the big key to success here at AU. Let’s give the Glory to God!”

Elijah le Roux (junior, speech-language pathology)

“There are always so many things to be grateful for, and every year at Thanksgiving we are offered the chance to think on these things. This year some of the things that I am especially thankful for are my health, my friends, and my family.”

Symone Caruthers (junior, biology)

It is with immense hope while writing this article, that each reader will be reminded to take time to remember and be thankful for the plethora of blessings surrounding them that outnumber the autumn leaves and even the snowflakes to come.
