Biography

Gilbert was born of missionary parents in the Seychelles Islands. He grew up in Mauritius with his six brothers and sisters and joined the Merchant Navy as a cadet officer after his high school years. He gave his heart to Jesus while still at sea in December 1975 and came back home to Mauritius where he got inovlved in his local church as the youth leader. Gilbert followed his childhood sweetheart Rosemay to Australia in 1981 where they were married. They have two children: Joel and Emilie.

He served as a pastor in the state of Victoria for six years before being called to be Youth Director in Sydney in 1993. In 1999, he was appointed as the Director for Youth Ministries for the South Pacific Division. In 2009, he asked for a change to pastor a local church in Sydney, from where he was called to be the General Conference Youth Director in 2010.

Gilbert has an interest in all sports, particularly soccer, and loves music. His dream is to see youth take hold of the mission of the church and stand up as a global movement for Jesus to bring hope and meaning to our hopeless world. One of Gilbert's favorite Bible verses is found in 1 Timothy 4:12, "And don't let anyone put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanors, by love, by faith, by integrity" (The Message).
