Caring Connection Stories

“My family deeply appreciates your compassion and assistance towards us in such a moment of mourning loved ones. We lost two close family members within two weeks and struggled to cover funeral expenses. We will never forget this gesture of compassion and kindness. My family and I will commit to doing the same for others going through moments of desperation and sorrows.”

"I would like to thank you for the help you provide in moments of need. I was informed that a close friend of mine tested positive for covid, and it was my responsibility to inform Andrews University of my close contact with this person. Immediately I was put on quarantine for 14 days. I was worried not being able to achieve my 40 hours per week. I didn't have enough sick days accumulated. My fears were confirmed of not having enough money to pay my monthly bills. At that moment, I applied to Andrews Caring Connection team, an organization which helps Andrews employees, for help to pay one of my bills, the electricity, the most expensive one. They promptly discussed and gave me the help I needed. That was a relief for me and my family who also were keeping the quarantine."

"I would like to send my personal thanks to the Caring team for thinking about us here in ITS as we move through this transition. It meant a lot to me that others have showed empathy and compassion to not just me but my team as well."

“Recently I was very sick and had to have unexpected surgery. I would be off work for 30 days. I had used up most of my vacation time and had very little long-term sick time, definitely not enough for 30 days. After speaking with Benefits, I learned of the Caring Connection Fund that helped employees in need…. I submitted a copy of my monthly expenses. My rent was the largest of the 4 bills that I submitted. I asked that if nothing else could be paid, could my rent be paid. I tell you, God does answer prayer. The committee met, and they agreed to pay our rent for the month. I was already under a great deal of stress, and not having to be concerned about how the rent would be paid was such a relief that I was able to focus on my health. What a blessing the Caring Connection Fund is, it helped keep my family and I to stay afloat during that difficult time. I implore all who can to donate to this fund. It will not only help other employees in need, it may even help you one day.”

"The employees of Andrews University have a wonderful program they can utilize for their time of need. In order to continue assisting, more employees are needed to contribute. The committee would like to give to the needs which are requested, but without donations from employees, they are limited in their ability to help. One dollar from each employee can help the Caring Connection program in assisting you in your time of need. I personally can attest to the assistance and how this program is a blessing! Please give what you can to help this program help you!”

During the summer of 2020, many employees were furloughed because of the pandemic. In response, the Caring Connection Committee gave baskets to furloughed colleagues in order to express solidarity during the difficult time. Images from this outdoor event:
