Mission Fund for Projects in Engineering

The Engineering and Computer Science Department at Andrews University has many exciting activities and projects planned for this year. One of the most rewarding for students is the ability to work on mission projects that can impact and make a difference for individuals in developing areas of the world.

Because of its strong interest and involvement in service to underprivileged communities, the Department of Engineering and Computer Science, in 2014 began implementing a chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA(EWB). EWB is a nonprofit organization that works with community-driven development programs worldwide to create and complete sustainable engineering projects.

“Joining Engineers Without Borders helps us to continue fulfilling our mission of service and meeting people’s needs, It gives us the framework to use our engineering skills in design, collaboration, and service to further Christ’s mission.” Dr. Boon-Chai Ng

We are inviting our former alumni and donors to partner with our department in financial support of student mission projects. The following student testimony shows the personal impact of mission projects on students.

“I believe this award provides an opportunitiy that I would never afford to have. Having the privilege to participate in this summer program has allowed me to learn to solve contemporary societal problems while providing service to others. I really appreciate having a Christian learning environment, which is a huge contrast from the community college where I transferred. Thank you for this gift.” Eduardo Cunha

In the past 4 years our department has grown by 40%, which led to expanding the Engineering & Computer Science program into Harrigan Hall for more space and program growth. As chair, I always contemplate over the question, “What will take us from where we are to the next level?” I believe that the mission emphasis for our students is a major part in answering that question and getting us to where we want to be. I invite faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and supporters to join me in financial partnership and support for the Student Mission Fund. Our department is very fortunate to have such wonderful people in this quest and I am forever grateful to you all. Do not hesitate to give us your advice, wisdom, and prayers. Blessings to all!
