The 2018 primary and general elections might be more than a year away, but one candidate already has thrown his hat into the ring for the 78th state House seat currently held by Dave Pagel.

Pagel is in his third term and cannot run again due to term limits.

Niles resident David Mann, 26, is making his second run for the 78th District state House seat. He ran previously in 2012, losing to Pagel in a three-way race in the Republican primary that year. Mann has held elected office before, serving five years on the Niles City Council, from 2011-16.

...Mann works at Andrews University in the religion and history department. He received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Andrews in 2013 and his masters degree in divinity from Andrews in 2016.

Mann said he wants to improve the situation in Michigan, and understands very well the seperation of church and state. “I want to improve the situation in Michigan. I’m not forcing my beliefs on others.”
