Free Intelligent Conversation (FreeIC)

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion and the Institutional Diversity & Inclusion Action Council present an opportunity to connect with others through “Free Intelligent Conversation (FreeIC).” FreeIC is a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating meaningful conversations.

The FreeIC event is for students, faculty and staff and is designed to encourage dialogue and interpersonal growth between individuals of different backgrounds.

The program will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in Chan Shun Hall. Food and co-curricular credit will be provided. Prior to the event, please complete this 1-minute survey.

Event Overview

  • Introduction: Overview of the event, the mission of FreeIC, and Diversity & Inclusion plans for the year
  • Breakout Sessions: In groups of 4–5 people, participants will share thoughts, opinions, and experiences with each other in response to FreeIC question cards
  • Panel Discussion: A moderated panel discussion will focus on guidelines and best practices for engaging in meaningful, productive conversations on difficult topics
  • Breakout Sessions: Participants will continue their small-group conversations, this time centered on tense or difficult topics. Participants will also engage panel members with questions and comments
  • Closing remarks
