On Saturday, December 2 the Forum program will feature Reinder Bruinsma discussing his recent book "Facing Doubt: A Book for Adventist Believers ‘On the Margins.’" He will address “Why I Wrote the Book, Why I Think It Is Relevant, and What I Hope It Will Do.” The Forum program is on Sabbath afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Garber Auditorium, Chan Shun Hall.

In addition, Dr. Bruinsma will be making two related presentations on campus Friday night and Sabbath morning.

If you wish to peruse the book before Dr. Bruinsma’s presentations, there is still time to order it.  Although the book is not stocked at the local Adventist Book Center, it may be purchased from Amazon.com.

Bruinsma is a retired and vocal pastor, teacher, editor and church administrator. He earned a PhD in church history from the University of London. At the time of his retirement he was president of the Netherlands Union, having previously served as executive secretary of the Trans-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists.

His latest book, "Facing Doubt: A book for Adventist Believers ‘On the Margins,’" has been translated into five languages. In it he deals with the doubts and questions many church members have—about Christian faith in general and the Adventist version of it in particular. He also touches on recent trends in the Adventist church, which many see as negative or even alarming. He makes himself quite vulnerable in this book as he is very open about his own questions and concerns. But he also explains that, nonetheless, he has decided to stay in the church and appeals to others to also deal constructively with their doubts and concerns and to "stay with it."
