H.E.L.P. Kids Learn to Succeed
Our literacy program helps public school students achieve their potential.
Fri, October 4, 2019 @ 01:00 pm - 03:45 pm
H.E.L.P. begins again this Friday!
The weekly values-based literacy program supports Benton Harbor public school students in grades 1–5 as they work to improve their learning outcomes. Sessions are Fridays from 1–3:40 p.m. Undergraduate students can receive up to 15 co-curricular credits for their involvement each semester.
Our team of volunteers will be placed in groups and each group assigned a classroom where they build positive relationships with the children. This program seeks to support student academic success and improve the classroom climate and culture. Volunteers serve every other Friday. Transportation and other classroom supplies are provided each week. Buses will depart Andrews University at 1:30 p.m.
This program provides participants with valuable experience working with young children who are eager to learn, and the time spent sharing values and strengthening literacy skills can change the trajectory of a life.
Volunteers must complete application forms which include a request for a background clearance prior to working in this program. Application forms will be provided. Please bring a government photo ID.
