Getting sex abuse out of the shadows

Mrs. America Mekayla Eppers was a #MeToo pioneer before it had a name.

Taking the stigma out of talking about sex abuse and helping people move from being victims to survivors has been her platform throughout her beauty pageant career.

“I’ve been talking about it for a long time,” she said in a visit Thursday to Andrews University. “There’s such a stigma behind all kinds of abuse. Within one week of being crowned Mrs. America people said it would ruin the organization, but I want to leave a message of transparency.
