LMYO Announces Fall Auditions

The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra , consisting of the Concert Strings, Encore Strings, LMYO Winds and Youth Symphony, announces fall auditions for membership. Auditions for Concert and Encore Strings will be held by appointment from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 25 and Monday, October 1, 2018 at Upton Middle School, 800 Maiden Lane in St. Joseph. Youth Symphony auditions will be on Thursday, September 27 6:00 to 8:00pm and Monday, October 1, 2018 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Students should call the SMSO Office at (269) 982-4030 to schedule an audition time. Participation in LMYO Winds, a newly formed ensemble for middle school wind, brass and percussion players is added in the spring term.

The SMSO is pleased to announce the addition of two new conductors for the LMYO program. Rachel-Cabanilla Sinnett returns as the Encore Strings conductor and Mr. Mark Hollandsworth will conduct the LMYO Winds for the Spring term. Ms. Cabanilla-Sinnett is Orchestra Director at Upton Middle School, and has previously conducted the ensemble. Mr. Mark Hollandsworth is Director of Bands at Buchanan Community Schools.

The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra is one of several educational programs of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. It offers several ability based groups for young musicians including the Concert Strings for string students with 1-2 years of experience, Encore Strings for string students with 2-3 years of experience, and Youth Symphony for woodwind, brass, percussion and string students with 3 or more years of experience.

Under the direction of conductors Burke Lokey, Rachel Cabanilla-Sinnett, and Beth Oeseburg, the Youth Orchestra, Encore Strings and Concert Strings rehearse on Monday evenings during the fall term from October 8 to December 10, 2018.
