Small Hands, Big Hearts Building Tiny House

The participants in Andrews University’s Renaissance Kids architecture camps have shown that good things come from small packages.

“You put a tool in a kid’s hands, and they are just empowered,” said Mark Moreno, an associate professor of architecture at Andrews who founded Renaissance Kids in 2007.

This year, the summer program is aiming to have a big impact by partnering with St. Augustine Episcopal Church, in Benton Harbor, to create a “tiny house,” a transitional dwelling for a homeless person. Andrews’ architectural students also are involved in the design.
