AFIA Rice 5k Run/Walk

   Student Clubs & Organizations
   Sun, October 6, 2019 @ 08:15 am - 10:30 am
    St. Joseph, Michigan

On Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, AFIA is hosting a 5k in the Margaret B. Arboretum in St. Joseph.

We are partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southwest Michigan. This is something that I am deeply passionate about—mental health is important at any stage in an individual's life. It is important to bring awareness to this subject so that as a community we can be equipped to help our loved ones suffering from mental illness. Nineteen percent of adults and 46 percent of teenagers every year struggle with mental health. As a community it is important that this percentage of the population within our community feels safe in asking for help. It is important for us as a community to break the stigma behind mental illness so that individuals who are affected can seek help without fear of judgement or shame. Through this run I believe that we will be able to join as a community and educate each other about mental illness. Through this run we will be able to show our communities that facilities are available to them such as NAMI.
