Speak the Truth Conference at Andrews University

The first-ever Speak the Truth Conference will be held at Andrews University this Thursday, November 7, through Saturday, November 9. There is no registration requirement or fee to attend.

Jemar Tisby, president of “The Witness: A Black Christian Collective,” co-host of the podcast Pass the Mic and author of the 2019 book “The Color of Compromise,” will be the keynote speaker for the conference. In his books and podcasts, Tisby reflects on issues of history, race, justice and Christianity. A native of the Chicago area and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, he spent several years teaching sixth grade with Teach For America and is currently a PhD student in history at the University of Mississippi.

The event schedule is as follows:

Thursday, November 7

  • University Forum, 11:30 a.m., Howard Performing Arts Center
  • Book Signing/Q&A, 7 p.m., James White Library (co-curricular credit offered for Andrews University undergraduates, light refreshments served and book giveaway included)

Friday, November 8

  • Proximity Vespers, 7:30 p.m., Pioneer Memorial Church

Saturday, November 9

  • New Life Fellowship, 11:45 a.m., Howard Performing Arts Center

The conference is sponsored by the Office for Diversity & Inclusion, Campus & Student Life, Office of Campus Ministries, James White Library, Black Student Christian Forum, and Against the Wall.
