Get Physical Therapy from Home

Stay home, stay safe and get physical therapy. The Andrews University School of Rehabilitation Sciences recently opened a physical therapy clinic in the Physical Therapy building on the campus of Andrews University. After the “Stay Home, Stay Safe.” Executive Order, the clinic is no longer providing in-person visits but has quickly responded to the needs of the community by providing online telehealth visits.

With telehealth visits Andrews is bringing physical therapy to you using a secure video call. There are several special considerations if you are interested in scheduling an online telehealth visit:

  • You need access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device.
  • You, or someone you are with, need to know how to participate in a video call.
  • You need a space where you can sit, stand or lie down during the session—a yoga mat on the floor or firm bed works well.
  • You need to place your electronic device free-standing, somewhere your therapist can still see you, so that you can be hands-free during the session.

Online telehealth visits are effective for the treatment of a variety of physical therapy needs including bodily aches and pains, functional limitations, management of a simple or complex medical condition, or simply fitness training. If you are not sure if telehealth is right for you, you can schedule a free 15-minute video call to talk to a physical therapist.

Appointments are scheduled on the Andrews website at andrews.edu/chhs/pt/pt-clinic/. Appointments are available Sunday–Friday from 9 a.m.–7 p.m. The first visit, which is the evaluation, is $80 and any additional follow-up visits are $35.

Paying for treatments is easy—just visit the Andrews website and pay online. The clinic does not take insurance, but if you have insurance you can submit your expenses to the insurance company yourself.  The clinic website includes several tips on how to do this submission: andrews.edu/chhs/pt/pt-clinic/services/index.html#reimbursed.

The Andrews clinic is a direct-access facility, so you can schedule an appointment whenever you are ready. You do not need a script or order from a medical doctor.
