Gazebo Reopening

| Posted on August 31, 2020

Dear campus community,

In our reopening planning for the start of the fall semester, it became evident that the Gazebo space wasn't large enough to accommodate its high volume of traffic while maintaining physical distancing. On June 6, 2020, we began working with VP Chip Meekma on a high tech and exciting solution: a mobile app that would allow you to customize, order and pay for your food, all at the click of a button on your mobile device. We have worked diligently this summer so the app would be live for the beginning of the semester. Like most things during the COVID pandemic, working with multiple providers, technical difficulties and scheduling have slowed this process.

As we wait for the GetFood app, the Gazebo team and Dining Services management have made the decision to do what we can to ease the stress of accessing food while bringing you the Gazebo items you love. Starting tomorrow, Sept. 1, at 8 a.m., we will open the Gazebo. We will offer a limited menu and beverage selection. Until we have the GetFood app fully functional, we will be unable to offer retail items, smoothies, and Grab and Go. Burritos and sandwiches will be freshly premade to allow you to quickly move through the lines, which means we will not be taking customized orders at this time.

The line will begin in the old Gazebo dining area (in the Campus Center lobby) and then enter through the double doors. You may place your order at the register on the right hand side where ambient and cold waters, and other beverages will also be available for purchase. Please note, we accept ID cards (if you have a meal plan) and credit cards only. We are not taking cash at this time. Clearly marked floor signage will allow you to easily make your way through the space to access your food order. All guests will exit through the double doors into the Dining Services office lobby. There are picnic tables set up on the lawn as well as the large white tent in front of Marsh Hall for you to sit and enjoy your meal.

Please note the following hours of operation, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 8 a.m.

Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Saturday, 6–9 p.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.

The number one goal of Dining Services is to provide you with delicious, healthy food in a timely and safe manner. We want you to thrive. This year, your Dining Services team is the most dedicated one we have had in my 10 years at Andrews. If your experience is less than positive, I want to know. Email me at Linda.Brinegar@cafebonappetit.com. I am eager to listen and work together to find solutions.

Please know that we, along with other Andrews University staff and the GetFood app team, are working tirelessly to bring the app online. Once the app is live, customized meals, retail and Grab and Go will be available during all hours of service. Breakfast burrito with breakfast strips, no cheese and extra chipotle...no problem!

Your patience, cooperation and suggestions during this challenging time are greatly appreciated as we work with state and local health departments to provide great food in a safe and socially responsible environment.

With heart,

Chef Linda
