30 Years of Service: Richard Choi

For 30 years, Richard Choi has used his God-given talents and expertise to minister to the Seminary’s students, faculty and staff. Since 2007, he has served as chair of the New Testament department and promotes research and teaching excellence for each of the faculty within his area. Students have noted his knowledge, passion and dedication to teaching, positive and encouraging demeanor, yet expecting the best from his students. The atmosphere in his classroom is described as spiritual, enlightening, facilitating a deeper love for Jesus, and showing that he values his students as God’s children.

In addition to his scholarly publications, a particularly valuable contribution Richard brings to the Seminary and Andrews University is in the area of his much-valued leadership in scholarly organizations and societies that involves collaboration with non-Adventist scholars. For many years, Richard has been executive secretary of the Chicago Society of Biblical Research, chair of the Paul Section for the Midwest Regional Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, and business manager for “The Journal of the Chicago Society of Biblical Research.”

Richard’s departmental members describe him as providing a collegial, fun and stimulating work environment and being conscientious, committed, efficient, diligent, supportive, a careful decision maker, inspirational and wise department chair dedicated to the Lord’s work.
