Stipend: $20,000

Roles and Responsibilities: Our AmeriCorps member will provide community support in the following ways:

• Be point of contact for homeowners needed repairs, scheduling residents with an assessment visit, gathering
paperwork and documentation, and/or linking them to other community services;
• With NbyN staff, conduct home repair assessment visits. Work with homeowners to create a plan of action based on priority/need of repairs;
• Create and upkeep tracking system for home repair assessment visits;
• In collaboration with NbyN team, conduct priority assessments for home repairs. Link homeowners not eligible for NbyN services to other community resources;
• Research, upkeep, and streamline additional local, state, and federal home repair services available to residents. Develop a system to easily navigate funder, funding specialty, and important dates.
• Conduct energy efficiency triage to landowners to assess eligibility. Link landowners not eligible for services to other community resources;
• Nurture current and new community partnerships to assist in volunteer recruitment and program outreach. This includes but isn’t limited to attending community events to educate community of services, conducting presentations at community meetings, or utilizing partners to help promote
services available;
• Educate residents of first time homebuyer assistance, specifically the USDA Rural Development loan. Provide guidance and instruction to residents in completing applications and submitting the needed documents. This includes touching base with residents for missing and incomplete information, or other errors and linking residents to organizations that provide homebuyer education & housing counseling services.;
• Recruit and lead volunteers to aid in aformentioned programming;
• Participate in CEDAM AmeriCorps monthly meetings, trainings, events, data collection, reporting and additional items as needed;
• Participate in AmeriCorps & Michigan’s AmeriCorps events and trainings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and/or knowledge of home construction/repair projects. Ability to talk about home repair projects to others;
• Willingness and interest in working with a diverse population while modeling patience, kindness, flexibility, respect, and maintaining privacy of those we’re assisting;
• Ability to function independently and in a team environment;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Compensation: Members will receive a living allowance of $20,000 distributed in even increments, bi-weekly between September 12, 2022 – August 25, 2023. Members will receive student loan forbearance for qualified loans, health care package, childcare assistance upon eligibility, and continual professional development. Upon successful completion of service an education award in the amount of $6,495 will be issued. Members will serve 1,700 hours for the term = 36-40 hours/week.
