BA in Spanish for K-12 Education

The BA in Spanish for K-12 Education is designed for students who want to teach at the elementary or secondary education levels.  The program prepares candidates to teach language and culture courses.  It should be complemented with education courses in order to obtain the teaching certification.  It requires a minimum of 36 credits.

ACA Courses: 21+

Advanced Grammar SPAN 351, 352, 353, 451, 452, 453 3 credits
Advanced Composition SPAN 361, 362, 363, 461, 462, 463 2 credits
 Advanced Conversation SPAN 371, 372, 373, 471, 472, 473 2 credits

AU Courses: 12+

IGLS 438   Methods of Foreign Language Instruction: K-12 3 credits
     
    Choose one of the following courses:  
SPAN 416    Spanish for Native Speakers 3 credits
SPAN 420   Advanced Spanish Written and Oral Communication 3 credits
     
    Choose one of the following courses:  
SPAN 426   Contemporary Spain (Study Tour)  3 credits
SPAN 436   Spanish-American Culture (Study Tour) 3 credits
     
    Choose one of the following courses:  
SPAN 447   Spanish for Translation (with lab) 3 credits
SPAN 449   Spanish for Interpreters (with lab) 3 credits

Electives

Spanish major electives selected in consultation with an advisor from SPAN/ILGS courses to fulfill the minimum of 36 credits.

Additional Requirement

A language proficiency exit exam required.  

All majors are required to attend a full academic year, excluding summer sessions, in the Adventist Colleges Abroad program at Colegio Adventista de Sagunto, Spain, or Universidad Adventista del Plata, Argentina.
