Biography:

Dr. Soper is Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Learning Officer at Memorial Hospital and Health System in South Bend, Indiana. He serves as an Adjunct Faculty at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan and served as Adjunct Faculty at Indiana University South Bend and University of Iowa. Prior to coming to South Bend in 1980, he was Director of Physical Therapy at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for nine years.
He received his master and doctoral degrees from the University of Iowa. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.


His interest and training in the 7-Habits of Highly Effective People and other leadership workshops began in 1992. He has attended many of the Franklin Covey leadership programs, and is a facilitator of many of the programs, including the 7-Habits of Highly Effective People & Families, Principle Centered Leadership, 4 Roles of Leadership, What Matters Most, Power of Understanding, Speed of Trust, Inspiring Trust, Getting to Synergy, 4 Disciplines of Execution and Great Leaders workshops. He served as one of Memorial’s trainers for Inner Quality Management and Transforming Stress; programs of the HeartMath Institute of Boulder Creek, California and is certified to administer the Bar-On Emotional (Intelligence) Quotient Inventory and the Hartman Value Profile.


He has conducted many local workshops and presentations on principle-centered living, and in 2000 went to South Africa to conduct several workshops on the 7-Habits of Highly Effective People and 4 Roles of Leadership for regional healthcare providers. As a member of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce’s Principle Centered Community Steering Committee he was instrumental in St. Joseph County becoming the second community in the United States to receive recognition from the Covey Leadership Center as a Principle-Centered Community. As a result of his community involvement he was a two-time recipient of the Franklin Covey Community Service Excellence Award in 1999 and 2005, and was inducted into the Elinor A. Crawford & William R. Thrall Hall of Excellence at the University of Northern Iowa in 2007.
