Retired NASA Astronaut Capt. Scott Kelly, recently completed his record-breaking year in space (March 2015-March 2016), and has laid the groundwork for future space travel and exploration. He orbited the earth 5,440 times, traveling an estimated 143,846,525 miles in the International Space Station with Russian Cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko.

The two space travelers garnered beneficial knowledge about the medical, psychological and biomedical challenges faced by astronauts during long-duration space travel by conducting experiments, reconfiguring the station modules and taking three space walks. Included in the research was NASA’s Twin Study, which used Kelly’s identical twin brother, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, as the control model on Earth to better understand how space affects the human body.

During this extraordinary year, Kelly became a celebrity, captivating the world with his live interviews and never-before-seen photos from space. It earned him a cover on Time, interviews on NBC’s Today and features in Forbes and on CNN. By the time he returned to Earth, his Twitter following exceeded one million. Based on this one-of-a-kind adventure, Kelly will speak to The Club about “The Sky Is Not the Limit: Lessons from a Year in Space.”
