The Eternal Godhead

On Sabbath, March 27, 2021, the Fairplain Seventh-day Adventist Church will be hosting a series of meetings on Seventh-day Adventist understandings of the Godhead as revealed in the Scriptures and the writings of Ellen White.
Dan Augsburger will be sharing a study of the Godhead that began back in the fall of 2017. Conversations led to the desire to know what Ellen White said on the subject and resulted in more than 1,400 pages of carefully annotated quotes being collected. There is ongoing work on a compilation of more than 250 pages and a series of four Bible studies on the subject: "The Eternal Father," "Christ: The Eternal, Self-Existent, Divine Saviour and Representative of the Father," "The Holy Spirit: Christ's Representative and Successor," and "The Eternal Three"—the latter being a study revealing the numerous Scriptures that speak of the three working together. The Bible study on the Holy Spirit lists, with some duplication, more than 260 Scriptural references. The compilation and Bible studies are considered some of the most exhaustive ever conducted on the topic within our church.
Dan will be sharing a study on the Father and Christ for the 11 a.m. service. In the afternoon he will speak further on the Christ and then on the Holy Spirt and the Eternal Three.
Dan was formerly asked to do the research for the "transformation of self" section of the Ellen White Encyclopedia. Having been admonished that the research needed to reflect Mrs. White's thoughts and not his personal opinions on transformation, he collected more than 1,200 pages of quotes on dying to self and transformation. In the process of learning about transformation, he also learned how to study the writings of Ellen White, discovering several keys to unlocking the "ocean" of material available. The knowledge and skills gained in that endeavor were used in studying the Godhead.
Dan has degrees from Andrews University and the Theological Seminary, has served as a full-time pastor, healthcare administrator, and small business owner and taught a class on the history of Christian spirituality at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary over the course of ten years.
