These two professional workshops will be taught concurrently the weekend of September 19-21, 2019. Especially designed for the high school student and natural-born communicator, each workshop develops skills that are invaluable to publication design and social media. PUBLICATION DESIGN WORKSHOP: 

Learn how to tell your story through photography and graphic design. This workshop will teach you how to implement design principles and make powerful photographic images for your publications. Looking for basic help in setting up your publications? We can guide you through that process and work with you to make your vision a reality. Looking for more advanced techniques? We can help with that too! Learn how to use your camera efficiently from a technical and artistic point of view. You will also learn quick postproduction techniques and design tricks to help your creative endeavors stand out!

INFLUENCER WORKSHOP:

In a world of followers, favorites, and likes, social media strategy has never been more important. The explosion of social media—social networking, blogging, hashtags and other forms of online social dynamics—is introducing a powerful tool for people to communicate and share information. This workshop will introduce social media strategies that will empower you to become an influencer in your generation. Through real world examples, including analysis of your own social networks, students will develop skills for mastering the patterns and usage of services like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others.

Registration Guidelines 

  • High school juniors and seniors enrolled in public and private schools- as well as home-schooled students are invited
  • Students must have their high school's and parent/guardian's approval in order to register
  • One supervisor/sponsor per school/group of students or for individual applicants
  • Although this weekend is geared toward junior and senior high school students, all high school students showing interest in publication design and social media are welcome to attend
  • The all-inclusive cost is $85 per student, $25 for english/writing/art teachers, $65 for parents/sponsors
  • Schools are encouraged to send up to five students to attend 

* Each school is required to have at least one supervisor/sponsor

Stay the Weekend

  • Participants are encouraged to stay on campus to get the full Andrews University college experience 
  • If a student decides to stay on-campus, they will be hosted in a residence hall by a current Andrews University student
  • Each school staying on campus is required to have at least one supervisor/sponsor that will be staying on campus with the group 
  • If a student decides to stay off-campus with their parent/guardian, please register as a daily participant. *Please plan your own accomodations accordingly

Activities Overview

  • Each of the I&I sections will provide hands-on projects that cultivate pre-professional skills towards publication design & social media 
  • Image and Influence final presentaion of projects 
  • Free time in the Recreation Center
  • Joint dinners with VACD Faculty/Staff
  • Worship opportunites

Cost

All costs for the programs are included in the package price. The package covers meals, housing in a residence hall, fees and activities
