The Peer Review Process

  1. JACL is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Manuscripts are therefore sent to several reviewers with expertise in the subject area of the article. To maintain objectivity, the cover page of the manuscript with the author’s name is deleted from the manuscript copies sent to the referees, and the referees’ names are deleted from any comments furnished to the author.
  2. Reviewers may submit helpful comments for the author to the JACL editor which will be sent to the author to facilitate the process of any necessary rewriting. Revised manuscripts may be resubmitted with an accompanying message detailing the changes requested and the action taken (or the author’s argument for retaining the original text).
  3. The final decision on whether or not the article will be published in JACL is made by the editor.
