Biography

Dr. Baumgartner, a native of Austria, teaches in leadership and intercultural communication. He has published on cross-cultural transitions, leadership and change, and subjects of organizational growth. He has translated several works related to church growth. He has also edited a book on stress and is the mastermind behind adventiststatistics.org, an online database about the Seventh-day Adventist church worldwide, created with the hard work of several research assistants.

Current Research or Professional Activities

Dr. Baumgartner is currently president of the American Society for Church Growth. Current publication projects include "Why they are staying away? Comparing acknowledged and attributed reasons for not attending church in Pacifica, CA" (with Dr. Peter Burch); "Does the seminary produce viable missional leaders? Rethinking leadership development for pastors"; and "Minding the gap: The culture factor in the practice of leadership." He is the senior editor of the Journal of Applied Christian Leadership.
